IBM Operations Console Options – IP and Local Attached

In case of 9406 170 Model the cabling looks like the following:

Cable run A: the Operations Cable – going into the direction to the PC
In the AS400 size the cable connected to the IOA card, in this example a 2745 which located at C08 slot.

Cable run B: if you would like to remote the control panel as well, you can make a remote control panel with connecting with a standard RS232 serial cable to AS400, but this serial port is not able to make OPS console functions!

Installed the Computer side components for being able to connect – in this case Client Access 4.5. Client access 7 does not support OPS console! Just IP console.

After the Client Access 4.5 install you have to install Operations Console as a modem to your serial port as well.

Switched Client Access to connecting stage
Start AS/400 in manual mode – IPL to 02 B M
After the manual mode started A6005001 error raised – which means the system is not finding a previous console: it was Twinaxial Console presented in this system and not OPS console
And client access throwing the connection error parallel.

If I IPL to 25,26,65,66,21 I got the same error both on AS400 side both in Client Access
So most probably one step cannot be done remotaly: OPS console not yet installed/enabled on OS400 system side, which is not able without Twinaxial console.

Next steps, looking for building up a Twinaxial terminal with the necessary cabling:
